Medical Assistants perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician.  Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes.  Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by a physician.

Medical Assistants are in demand.  Medical assisting is expected to grow by 19% from 2019 - 2029 - much faster than the average for all healthcare occupations according to the United States Department of Labor due to:

  • Expected increase in the number of physician offices and outpatient care facilities

  • Advancements in technology

  • Increasing number of elderly patients who need medical treatment

Our Medical Assisting program includes testing for industry certification through American Medical Technologists as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).

Here is what one of our graduates, Carley Brancovsky, had to say about her experience in the Medical Assisting program at NCI:

My Certificate from Northern Career Institute opened up a world of opportunities for me. After submitting a few applications, I chose a position as an RMA at Cleveland Clinic. The amenities range from flexible hours, to full health benefits. Needless to say, the working conditions are ideal and I have gained so much on the job experience that I have decided to continue my education in pursuit of an RN degree. I directly credit NCI for this positive change in my life. As I reflect on my daily classes, I remember the endless support I have received from my instructors and peers. Not only do I highly recommend NCI to high school students and adults looking to improve their current situation. There are countless possibilities for anyone seeking to challenge themselves, work hard and make a difference in the world.
