Evening Classes are Monday through Friday from 4:45 pm to 10:15 pm

Applying for admission to the Northern Career Institute is the first step to an exciting new career! General employment requirements as well as procedures and requirements for admission to the Northern Career Institute's Willoughby-Eastlake School of Practical Nursing are shown below. EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
What are the requirements to be employed as a licensed practical nurse?
General:
The LPN possesses basic nursing knowledge and skills, critical thinking abilities, ability to work with minimal supervision, effective communication and organizational skills, ethics and compassion.
Education and Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Graduate of an approved school of Practical Nursing.
Current Ohio License as an LPN
Physical and other Requirements:
Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good hand-eye coordination, involves extensive standing walking and occasional lifting.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAM
All candidates for admission to the Willoughby-Eastlake School of Practical Nursing are considered on individual merits, without discrimination on the basis of age, creed, national or ethnic origin, race, color, sex, marital status, handicap, political affiliations or beliefs.
Please note that meeting entrance requirements and submitting required application documents does not guarantee acceptance into the LPN program. Candidate materials will be reviewed and candidates will be notified of acceptance.
In order to apply for entrance into the LPN program, candidates:
Must be currently credentialed through the Ohio Department of Health as a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) or equivalent from another state.
- OR -
Take a prerequisite course of Medical Terminology and pass with a “B” or better.
The course must have been taken at an accredited school within the last 5 years. An official transcript can be mailed to:

The course can also be taken through StraighterLine. Upon completion of the course, be sure to request your transcript gets sent to NCI Admissions.

Once a candidate provides official documentation that they meet the above criteria:
1. Application - You will receive your application after you submit your Credential to Admissions.
2. Education - must be a high school graduate or have earned a GED or Adult Diploma. An official transcript must be provided. Transcripts are only accepted directly from the high school; NCI will not accept a transcript from a prospective student unless it is in the official sealed envelope.

3. Personal Qualifications - references from two persons, preferably from an employer
4. BCI&I background check must not contain any criminal history.
(Candidates who have not resided in Ohio in the past 5 years are also required to complete an FBI background check.)
5. Drug Screen - negative drug screen on first attempt.
6. Tuition - Payment or securing of tuition prior to entry into the program.
7. Evidence of current American Heart Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification.
