CARES Act Emergency Financial Aid Grant - Information and Disclosures
Second Quarter - 2021
1. The Northern Career Institute signed and returned to the U.S. Department of Education the appropriate Certification and Agreement along with an assurance that the institution has used no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
2. The total amount of funds that the institution received from the U.S. Department of Education, pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students:
· $88,225 on June 16, 2020
· $88,225 on March 19, 2021
3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act:
· $88,225 disbursed on June 25, 2020
· $88,225 disbursed on March 19, 2021
4. The estimated total number of students who were eligible to participate in the Federal student financial aid programs under Section 484 of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, and thus are eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act:
· 93 for the June 25, 2020 disbursement
· 88 for the March 19, 2021 disbursement
5. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to Students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act:
· 93 for the June 25, 2020 disbursement
· 88 for the March 19, 2021 disbursement
6. The following method(s) was used to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
Section 18004(a)(1) of the Emergency Financial Aid Grant to Students under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act address the pressing financial need of students due to the disruption of campus operations from coronavirus for the sole and exclusive purpose of providing emergency financial aid grants to students for their expenses related to but not limited to, food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child-care expenses.
Because 96% of the workforce development students at the Northern Career Institute are economically disadvantaged and the remaining four percent have also been affected by the disruption of campus operations from coronavirus and have increased needs related to but not limited to food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care, the funding from the first disbursement of the CARES Act grant was evenly dispersed to all actively enrolled students as of May 1, 2020 in the Adult Workforce Development programs at the Northern Career Institute. The second disbursement of the CARES Act grant was evenly dispersed to all actively enrolled students who completed a brief on or before in the Adult Workforce Development programs at the Northern Career Institute
7. The following guidance was provided to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants:
· June 25, 2020 Disbursement:
As we transition through the COVID-19 emergency and learn to adapt to distance education we are committed to providing you support and assistance as much as possible. To assist you during the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19, this emergency financial aid grant is being disbursed to you in the amount of $948.65. This Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act is an emergency grant and will not need to be paid back. This grant is to assist you with the following expenses but not limited to: Housing and meals; Utilities; Additional course-related materials or technology; Emergency medical expenses; Child care.
· March 19, 2021 Disbursement:
As we continue to transition through the COVID-19 emergency and learn to adapt to distance and hybrid education we are committed to providing you support and assistance as much as possible.
To assist you during the disruption of campus operations from coronavirus, an emergency financial aid grant may be available for you. This Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act grant is an emergency grant and will not need to be paid back. This grant is to assist you with the following expenses but not limited to:
* Housing and meals
* Utilities
* Additional course-related materials or technology
* Emergency medical expenses
* Child care
